Hey there. You’ve just stumbled upon my new gaming website. After freelancing for publications such as Hyper, The Official Australian Xbox Magazine and Gameplayer, I’ve decided to plant my own flag.

Together with my small but dedicated team, I’ll be bringing you daily updates from the world of games along with Australia’s grooviest gaming podcast. How do I know it will be groovy? I just know.

I’d best tell you a little bit about the site.

What you will see: a focus on original IP

While we acknowledge that numerous sequels and movie tie-ins have been genuinely praiseworthy, we are far more intrigued by original IP. We won’t ignore sequels entirely, but our focus will remain on new ideas, bold and inventive.

What you won’t see: coverage of the new Madden

This is not a qualitative judgement. It doesn’t reflect our opinion of Madden specifically or sports games in general. After all, we’ve been playing virtual hockey since the 2600 days. It simply reflects our decision to focus on original IP.

What you will see: equal parts sincerity and irreverence

As entertainment, as art, as social commentary, games are becoming an important part of our culture. That said, any industry releasing games entitled Violence Fight, Nobby Nobby Boy and (my personal favourite) Touch the Dead, can’t be taken too seriously.

What you won’t see: the usual nonsense

What are the 100 greatest games of all time? Is Game X the Game Y Killer? How many copies did Game X sell in its first 24 hours? Who are the hottest women in gaming? Don’t expect to see this sort of drivel on Black Panel. (Our drivel will be entirely different.)

We humbly invite you to make this website your daily destination for gaming news and criticism.  We’re committed to establishing the Black Panel as a name you can trust.
