I knew this would happen

Ignition Entertainment and Access Games have announced Deadly Premonition, a third person action mystery with supernatural overtones.

As FBI Agent Francis York Morgan, you’ll be investigating a series of grisly murders in, you guessed it, small town America. As you close in on the insidious ‘Folklore Killer’, you’ll be beset by all manner of ghoulish monstrosities. Assisting you in your investigation is Zach, who despite having never been sighted by anyone other than you, is definitely a real person. Maybe.

The announcement trailer showcases a grainy, low budget horror aesthetic that, for now at least, we’ll assume is an artistic choice. The gameplay promises to be a blend of exploration, combat and stealth, all against a backdrop of disjointed and disturbing imagery.

An Xbox 360 exclusive, Deadly Premonition is due for release in early 2010. According to a report published on Siliconera, the game will be released at a budget price.

Welcome to the Black List, our regular retrospective on the week that was.

On Monday, we waded through a seemingly endless trailer for Split/Second to be rewarded with a few seconds of exhilarating gameplay footage.

On Tuesday, we were struck by a kind of incredulous euphoria as Nintendo confirmed that it would actually offer demos for some WiiWare titles.

On Wednesday, we took a look at Mass Effect 2 screens and confirmed what Mike Tyson already knows.

On Thursday, we were dismayed to discover that risk and originality were no longer welcome at EA.

On Friday, we reported that Greed Corp was coming to PC and XBLA. We also confirmed a release date for the long awaited Xbox 360 system update and had another grumble about the new EA.

Thanks for reading.
