It’s always aliens

See? This is what happens when you leave crumbs on the table.

See? This is what happens when you leave crumbs on the table.

Spanish developer Tragnarion Studios has unveiled The Scourge Project, a sci-fi themed third person shooter. The game is being promoted as cooperative showcase, with each player experiencing their own story while contributing to the overall mission.

The game takes place in a future dominated by the tyrannical Nogari Corporation. You’ve been hired by The Tarn Initiative, a mysterious organisation devoted to loosening Nogari’s grip on the world’s energy markets. This will involve lobbying government officials and producing research to bolster… just kidding.  It will involve storming the Nogari compound and kicking as much arse as you can find.

Your goal is to obtain the meteorite fragment employed by Nogari to engineer new forms of energy. Expect to encounter heavy resistance, not only from Nogari security forces, but also from the twisted alien life-forms that inhabit the base. You had to know that was coming…

Despite being offered exclusively as a digital download, the Unreal Engine powered title exhibits a considerable degree of visual polish. Of course, I’d still like to see it in motion before making a final judgement in that regard.

The Scourge Project will be available via Steam in December 2009, with XBLA and PSN versions to follow in March 2010.

“Ulfson takes an early lead in the fourth annual screaming contest.”

Xbox 360 Live Arcade and Nintendo DS users have something to look forward to in Spring 2010 with publisher D3P and developer Infinite Interactive announcing the release of Puzzle Quest 2, the sequel to the now classic Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords.

According to their press release, Peter Andrew, from D3P states, “Puzzle Quest 2 returns with a captivating, rewarding, and accessible journey for gamers of all levels as the ultimate delivery system for the mental release puzzle gamers seek.” I don’t know about you readers but I was extremely moved by these words. My brain is screaming for mental release! I can’t wait for 2010, I want it now! Oh wait a minute, Peter also states, “With the entire Puzzle Quest world accessible on your fingertips in real-time action, players will be able to get a more streamlined experience for instant gratification.” Instant gratification! Sounds kinky…

Boasting an “enhanced real-time experience using all-new weapons, spells, and shields that make every decision meaningful and never passive” and the ability for players to adventure in Story Mode or ‘dive into Instant Action, Tournament Mode, or Mutliplayer Mode for a rich and diverse experience”, Puzzle Quest 2 will definitely be welcomed by the puzzle gaming community. Whether it can compete against the draw power of Gyromancer, the rather similar new offering from Square Enix & PopCap remains to be seen.
