People Can Fly are best known for their work on the Painkiller series.

Seven years after Painkiller blasted its way onto shelves, People Can Fly are preparing to deliver their second original IP. Like its predecessor, Bulletstorm is a sci-fi themed first person shooter. You’ll play as Grayson Hunt, an elite mercenary betrayed by your superior officer. The action takes place on a distant world ravaged by mutants and cannibals. Having said that, the weather is nice and the accommodation is cheap. You can’t have it all.

You’ll be encouraged to execute what the developer describes as ‘skillshots’. By slaying your foes in a creative or challenging manner, you’ll earn points which can be used to unlock new items and abilities. On paper at least, the system recalls the stylised violence of Bizarre Creations’ 2008 release, The Club.

Bulletstorm will be the first game from People Can Fly release since Epic Games purchased a majority stake in the studio in 2007. EA will publish the game, which has been brought to life using Epic’s own Unreal Engine 3.

Bulletstorm is due for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in 2011.
