Activision has issued a new trailer for Singularity, the long delayed first person shooter from Raven Software. The short clip serves as an excellent introduction to the temporal device that you’ll use throughout the game. Fears that Singularity’s time manipulation mechanic would amount to the now common capacity rewind your mistakes have proven unfounded. The uses of the device appear many and varied, which is fortunate, as you’ll be relying on it as you explore every corner of an ‘abandoned’ research facility.
The 2008 announcement of Singularity came as something of a surprise. Though Raven had produced a slew of original IPs during its early years, the sale of the studio to Activision in 1997 coincided with a marked shift in its output. Over the next 12 years, Raven produced a veritable avalanche of sequels and spinoffs, including multiple titles based on the Star Wars and X-Men licenses. With Singularity is due for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in June 2010, we’ll soon discover if Raven is still capable of producing top notch original content.
