Sony execs respond to Insomniac’s announcement.

Insomniac Games has revealed that it will soon end more than a decade of PlayStation exclusivity. The next original IP from the creators of Resistance and Ratchet & Clank will be coming to both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, courtesy of EA Partners. According to studio head Ted Price, the deal will free Insomniac from annual development cycles and result in more polished releases. He also confirmed that Insomniac will continue to develop some PlayStation exclusive titles in the future.

The Partners initiative has seen Electronic Arts team with some of the industry’s most successful independent developers. Signings include Valve, Crytek and Respawn Entertainment, the latest venture from the creators of Call of Duty. Such deals seem to attract studios looking to retain their creative independence while benefitting from the marketing and distribution muscle of a major publisher.

Perhaps inspired by the success of the EA Partners concept, THQ has unveiled a similar program, which they have dubbed THQ Partners. Oh dear.
