Hothead Games has issued a new trailer has for forthcoming fantasy romp DeathSpank. The game is the brainchild Ron Gilbert, co-creator of classic LucasArts adventures Maniac Mansion and The Secret of Monkey Island. Though DeathSpank is ostensibly a loot centric action RPG, it will also feature the madcap dialogue and bizarre puzzles that Gilbert is famous for.
Taking a leaf from the well worn Hollywood playbook, Hothead has described the game as “Monkey Island meets Diablo”. While this would normally suggest a whole lot of pointing and even more clicking, DeathSpank will be coming to consoles first, with a potential PC release on the backburner for the moment.
This will be the first project from Hothead since the Canadian developer revealed that it had cancelled the long awaited third instalment of Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. Though DeathSpank was itself conceived as a series of episodes Gilbert recently confirmed that it has since been restructured and is now an entirely self contained game.
Look for DeathSpank on the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in winter 2010.
