DiRT 3 has been expanded to show that rally driving is more than just going left, right, hard left, straight, it also contains explosions and s – l – o – w motion. DiRT 3 (or DiRB if your font is too close) is going in the direction of other action racers and complimenting the main career modes with an action racer sub game (think Split/Second). DiRT looks to be pushing the use of Gymkhana racing, a newer technical type of racing from that involves long drifts and, apparently, lots of slow motion footage, to heighten the sense of fun on offer.
The released trailer shows Ken Block racing over the usual uneven surfaces and changing weather patterns, in extremely high graphical fidelity. Other racers join Ken as he pushes his car to the limit to Gymkhana his way around an exploding truck. Codemasters promise a hugely expanded game over the previous instalment with over 50 rally cars and a doubling of the number of tracks on offer.
DiRB recognizes that racing games can be both arcade fun and technical precision in order to cater for all racing enthusiasts in the one package. It is scheduled for release in 2011 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
