Make your own damn fun

The user generated phenomenon is set to continue with EA today announcing that its Bright Light studio is working on a family friendly title known as Create. The game is designed to reward you for customising objects and environments and devising original challenges.

You’ll also be encouraged to share your creations with online friends, unless you happen to have purchased the Wii version, in which case, you’ll be shafted yet again. When you consider that similar functionality was included in the publisher’s own Boom Blox, Create begins to look like a backwards step for both EA and the Wii. On a potentially brighter note, EA has confirmed that the game will support Sony’s forthcoming Move peripheral.

Create joins the likes of LittleBigPlanet and Trackmania in asking you to make your own fun. I don’t know about you, but when I part with my hard earned, I expect a game to adequately compensate for my profound laziness and complete lack of imagination. Where is this trend leading? I’m worried that future releases will contain nothing but blank discs and C++ manuals.

Create is coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC and (here comes the surprise) Mac in November 2010.

Last look at Cole before he goes in for remodelling

Sony has released new vision of inFAMOUS 2, the forthcoming super hero sequel from Sucker Punch Games. In this revealing three minute clip, electrically charged protagonist Cole MacGrath pursues a limousine through the streets of New Marais. Though, MacGrath’s form of locomotion is novel, the objective is fairly typical of the open world action genre. Hopefully it isn’t quite as daunting as it looks. I for one have had my fill of convoluted chase sequences in which the slightest error leads to failure and repetition.

Sharp eyed fans of the original inFAMOUS may have noticed that MacGrath’s appearance has undergone something of an overhaul. Well, don’t get too attached to the new look. According to a report published on IGN, Sucker Punch has already ditched it in favour of something more closely resembling the original design. This trailer may be our last glimpse at the Cole that could have been.

A PlayStation 3 exclusive, inFAMOUS 2 is due for release in 2011.
