Petri Dish 2: The Revenge
The indie game revolution continues apace, with Ubisoft today announcing that it will publish Zeit2 (‘Zeit Squared’). Produced by tiny German Studio Brightside Games, the promising horizontal shooter was a finalist in the Student Showcase category of the 2009 Independent Games Festival (IGF) awards.
At first glance, it appears to be fairly typical 2D shoot ‘em up. However Zeit2 enables players to travel back in time to assist earlier versions of themselves. This aspect of the game is reminiscent of The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, which was itself an IGF Student Showcase finalist in 2008. It will be interesting to see how this emerging style of play fairs in a different genre.
It’s been more than 30 years since the release of Space Invaders, but it seems we’re still not safe from warmongering aliens. Zeit2 will see us continue our never ending battle on Xbox Live Arcade and PC platforms on Thursday 4 November 2011.
