Operation: Tajikistan

A remarkably tedious new trailer has emerged for Operation Flashpoint: Red River, the third instalment in the tactical first person shooter series from Codemasters.

The game is set in far flung Tajikistan, a country not to be confused with Adjikistan, the imaginary setting invaded by patriotic SOCOM players way back in 2006. You’ll can tackle the campaign in one of four roles (grenadier, scout, rifleman or automatic rifleman) and you’ll be encouraged to bring up to three mates along for the ride.

The Operation Flashpoint franchise is returning to a market awash with military shooters. After spending 2010 with new chapters of Battlefield, Medal of Honor and Call of Duty, will we be ready for yet another kill streak? Codemasters, it seems, is willing to bet that too much action is barely enough.

Local distributor Namco Bandai is bringing Operation Flashpoint: Red River to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in 2011.

CORRECTION: Edited to reflect the fact that Tajikistan is a real country. (31.01.11)
