A Double Fine induced panic attack

Just a month after the release of Costume Quest, THQ has unveiled Stacking, the second leg of its downloadable collaboration with Double Fine Productions. A madcap puzzle adventure with a steam era aesthetic, Stacking is the brainchild of Brutal Legend art director Lee Petty.

The game takes place in a bizarre world populated by Russian nesting dolls. As the miniscule but heroic Charlie Blackmore, you’ll be able to clamber into larger dolls and use their special abilities to your advantage. It appears that you’ll eventually find yourself several layers deep.

The mere thought of this game makes me feel hopelessly claustrophobic. I’ll have to get used to the idea, though. Double Fine are on record with a prediction that “by this time next year, all games are going to star Russian nesting dolls.”

According to THQ, Stacking will hit the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in early 2011. Hopefully I’ll be out of therapy by then.
