MONDAY l PREVIEW l New Horizons (Part 4 of 10) > The creators of Frontlines: Fuel of War are preparing another assault on the first person shooter market. This time around, THQ and Kaos Studios have an ace up their sleeve. Homefront will feature a paranoid near future scenario penned by Red Dawn director John Milius. The Greater Korean Republic has conquered the United States and as a member of the resistance, it will be up to you to send them packing. This is just one of the games addressed in the fourth instalment of New Horizons, our massive preview of original IPs in 2011. READ MORE
TUESDAY l PREVIEW l New Horizons (Part 5 of 10) > It seems the widely reported death of chivalry may have been slightly exaggerated. Every second screen from cooperative fantasy action game Knights Contract has lazy witch Gretchen being carried about by hulking executioner Heinrich. Truth be told, the latter has been spellbound by the former and effectively has no choice in the matter. However, unless they can work together, the villainous Dr. Faust will win the day. This is just one of the games addressed in the fifth instalment of New Horizons, our massive preview of original IPs in 2011. READ MORE
WEDNESDAY l PREVIEW l New Horizons (Part 6 of 10) > Already notorious for devising the most misleading title in the history of gaming, Final Fantasy legend Hironobu Sakaguchi is preparing to release The Last Story. The long awaited JRPG will mark the Wii debut of Sakaguchi’s Mistwalker studio and, despite the limitations of the hardware, it looks to be a lavish production. The game will also feature online multiplayer, still a rarity on Nintendo’s console. The Last Story is due on Japanese shelves this month. This is just one of the games addressed in the sixth instalment of New Horizons, our massive preview of original IPs in 2011. READ MORE
THURSDAY l PREVIEW l New Horizons (Part 7 of 10) > The first new IP from id Software in almost 15 years allows you to host your own late night music program on the ABC. Oh, wait. That’s something else entirely. Rage is actually a post apocalyptic epic that combines traditional first person carnage with a healthy dose of vehicular combat. It’s not the most original concept in popular fiction, but that’s unlikely to dissuade id’s many fans from checking out what promises to be a graphical showcase. This is just one of the games addressed in the seventh instalment of New Horizons, our massive preview of original IPs in 2011. READ MORE
FRIDAY l PREVIEW l New Horizons (Part 8 of 10) > In this business, timing is everything, which is why you have to admire Double Fine Productions for swooping on the concept of Russian nesting dolls only a century or so after the craze began. As the diminutive hero of Stacking, you’ll need to break open and possess a series of larger dolls. You’ll then be able to exploit their unique abilities in order to solve puzzles. This is just one of the games addressed in the eigth instalment of New Horizons, our massive preview of original IPs in 2011. READ MORE
