“Get out of my way! I don’t want to miss the Tom Savini look-alike contest!”

Dark clouds have again gathered over Frontier Development’s long delayed political action game The Outsider. Studio founder David Braben has conceded its completion is no longer the priority it once was, telling Rock Paper Shotgun that a number of unannounced titles are currently absorbing the developer’s resources. Frontier has trimmed its workforce by almost 30 in recent months, which may have reduced its capacity to juggle multiple projects.

While The Outsider has been trapped in development hell for more than five years, it has not been an entirely unproductive period for the studio. During that time, Frontier has delivered LostWinds and Kinectimals, the former an award winning WiiWare platformer, the latter a surprisingly well received virtual pet experience for the Kinect. With its realistic graphics and non-linear plot, The Outsider certainly looks to be a more time consuming undertaking.

If all goes according to plan, The Outsider will be coming to 360, PS3 and PC.
