Night moves

Having attracted plaudits for its WiiWare remake of Cave Story, Nicalis is set to release its first original game. Produced in collaboration with prolific indie creator Nifflas, NightSky is a physics based puzzle platformer in which you must guide a crystal sphere through 10 dark and foreboding environments.

While aesthetically similar to the likes of Limbo, Outland and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, NightSky contains a few promising variations. Most notably, the game is entirely devoid of adversaries, human or otherwise. In fact, according to Nicalis, the game contains no violence at all. That’s all well and good, but I reserve the right to bash my head into the keyboard during particularly challenging puzzles.

The official website for NightSky is surprisingly light on hyperbole, describing the gameplay as “solid” rather than “magical”, “revolutionary” or “spectacular”. Refreshing, isn’t it?

A posting on the developer’s Twitter page reveals that the PC version of NightSky will arrive on Thursday 6 January 2011. A WiiWare version is also in the works.

UPDATE: The Black Panel sought further information regarding the release of Night Sky. Nicalis informed us that the game will initially be made available for download from their own website, with additional distribution channels to be announced in the future.
