nanoBITES 35

Posted by Black Panel Staff On Thursday 31 March 2011ADD COMMENTS

NanoBITES captures those small but important morsels of gaming information that otherwise might slip between the cracks.

ITEM! Forthcoming PS3 exclusive Resistance 3 will become the latest shooter to support both stereoscopic 3D and PlayStation Move. The Insomniac developed sequel is scheduled for release in September.

ITEM! It seems the recently announced Warlords will have some competition for your retro dollars. As reported by Joystiq, a Choplifter remake will make its way to the PSN in spring, courtesy of Hunted: The Demon’s Forge developer InXile Entertainment.

ITEM! Nintendo has finally announced a local release date for Steel Diver. A 3DS launch title in many territories, the submarine combat game will surface in Australia on Thursday 12 May.

ITEM! Notorious shooter Duke Nukem Forever has experienced yet another delay. If you’re inclined to believe the latest assurances, the latest project from Gearbox Software will now arrive on Friday 10 June 2011, about a month after the previously announced date.

ITEM! Capcom is bringing downloadable versions of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X to 360 and PS3. Both titles will receive an HD spit and polish before being released in spring.

Crashing castles

A criminally addictive multiplayer experience from the golden age of arcades is being remade for modern audiences. Atari has revealed that developer Griptonite Games (Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines) has commenced work on a new version of Warlords.

Already the subject of a number of remakes, the 30 year old action strategy game challenged up to four players to protect their castles by deflecting incoming fireballs into opposing structures. A winner was declared when only one castle remained standing.

It appears that Griptonite has retained the same basic structure, while adding a few ideas of its own. Players will still be required to destroy opposing castles, but they’ll also be asked to collect power-ups and capture important locations on the map. Further, the simple fantasy setting of the original has evolved into a (marginally) more realistic 3D environment.

Adding complexity to a perfect formula is always a risk. We’ll find out if it pays off when Warlords arrives on XBLA and PSN in winter 2011.

Return to Racoon

Get ready for another dose of the T-Virus. Capcom has confirmed that co-op focused third person shooter Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City is in development at Slant 6 Games. The new instalment tackles the events of the second and third Resident Evil titles from a surprising new perspective. After years of fighting the good fight, you’ll now have the opportunity to play as a ruthless Umbrella Corporation operative.

While the pay is good and the dental plan excellent, this is not a job for the faint of heart. Gunning down hoards of mutant abominations is probably second nature to you by now, but you’ll also be expected to “silence” members of the government taskforce sent to investigate the accident that has occurred in the heart of Racoon City. You’ll also have the local cops to contend with, cops like series regular Leon S. Kennedy.

Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City is due to arrive on 360, PS3 and PC in the summer of 2011/12.
