Trenched announced for XBLA

The studio responsible for Costume Quest and Stacking is preparing to bring yet another original creation to the downloadable space. Where its predecessors traded in whimsical artistry, the latest game from Double Fine Productions promises balls-to-the-wall action.

A third person shooter with customisable mechs and an arcade sensibility, Trenched may also feature elements of tower defence. The game takes place amidst an apocalyptic clash between the United States and a totalitarian movement dubbed Monovision. As a member of the elite Mobile Trench Brigade, it will be your job to ensure that the forces of capitalism freedom, win the day.

Our first glimpse of Trenched has arrived in the form of a vintage newsreel. While not without its charms, it probably doesn’t warrant a place alongside the Dino D-Day trailer in the faux propaganda film hall of fame.

Trenched will be published by Microsoft, which is yet to announce a release date for what is, at least for now, an XBLA exclusive.
