MONDAY JUST ANNOUNCED Burnout Crash > One of the most exhilarating driving franchises of the past decade is set to return, but not in the form that its fans expected. EA and Criterion Games have unveiled Burnout Crash, a downloadable offering inspired by Crash Mode, a bonus stage first seen in Burnout 2: Point of Impact. Like its namesake, the new game will challenge players to speed headlong into crowded intersections, trigger outlandish traffic accidents and rack up massive damage bills. READ MORE
TUESDAY JUST ANNOUNCED PlanetSide 2 > Sony Online Entertainment has offered players a peek at sci-fi first person shooter PlanetSide 2. Though the announcement trailer makes the world of PlanetSide 2 look somewhat stilted and lifeless, Sony is promising to deliver “stunning visual effects that make game environments seem as realistic as possible.” READ MORE
WEDNESDAY NEWS PopCap sells to EA > PopCap Games will soon trade its independence for greater marketing and distribution clout and, of course, a rather large sack of money. EA has announced that that it will purchase the creators of Bejeweled, Peggle and Plants vs Zombies for US $650m in cash and $100m in EA shares. The deal is expected to be closed by August. READ MORE
THURSDAY NEWS nanoBITES 48 > BioWare has unveiled the latest batch of DLC for its multiplatform RPG sequel Dragon Age II. Featuring new quests and environments, Legacy will see players explore the dark history of Hawke’s family. Look for it on 360, PS3 and PC on Tuesday 26 July. FRIDAY JUST ANNOUNCED Hard Reset > Polish developer Flying Wild Hog has issued a trailer for its mysterious debut project Hard Reset. The first person shooter takes place in a horrific future in which robots (presumably not the kind that follow you on Twitter) have overrun the world and all but one human settlement has been wiped out.
