Mojang has issued a teaser trailer for Scrolls. The project has been shrouded in mystery, but after watching this 49 second clip, you’ll almost certainly agree that it is, indeed, still shrouded in mystery. From the modicum of information released about the game to date, it looks to have a few things in common with the likes of Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering.
You’ll be playing as a wizard of sorts and the gameplay seems to revolve around using collectible scrolls to summon warriors, monsters and siege weapons to fight on your behalf. You’ll also have the ability to unleash spells such as lightning bolts. The trailer seems to confirm that you’ll be facing off against other scroll bearers.
Bethesda Softworks has objected to the title of Mojang’s project, believing that it infringes on its long running Elder Scrolls series of fantasy games. Mojang founder Markus ‘Notch’ Persson famously responded by challenging Bethesda to a three-on-three game of Quake 3. Under Notch’s proposal, which strangely enough hasn’t yet been accepted by Bethesda, the winning team would retain the Scrolls name.
Mojang has announced neither a release date nor a platform for Scrolls.
