Gearbox Software has confirmed that it is working on a follow up to its popular first person looter Borderlands.
Released in 2009, the original featured a desolate sci-fi setting, solid shooter mechanics, distinctive cell-shaded art, substantial post release DLC and, most famously, an almost infinite variety of guns. The sequel will feature new “skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment” as well as “several new character classes”. The action will again take place on the virtually lawless planet of Pandora.
According to publisher 2K Games, Borderland 2 will be coming to 360, PS3 and PC during the 12 months commencing April 2012. While the first game in the series was tremendous fun, it was plagued by the odd performance issue.
Gearbox has been quite active of late, announcing Brothers In Arms: Furious 4 in June and releasing the long overdue Duke Nukem Forever in the same month. The Texan studio will be hoping that Borderlands 2 enjoys a better critical reception than the latter.
