Anarchy Reigns reveals substance as well as style

Anarchy Reigns (formerly Max Anarchy) was announced earlier this year as the newest project from developer Platinum Games in conjunction with SEGA. With a track record of games such as Bayonetta and Vanquish, it should come as no surprise that the latest trailer from the developer doesn’t shy away from drama.

Despite the majority of previous coverage seemingly focused on the “multiplayer brawler” aspect of the title as described by SEGA, the latest offering focuses solely on the storyline, providing some context to the action.

Characters in the previous teaser are revealed in greater detail and enemy motives are hinted, all set to a futuristic backdrop in a neon-lit city where robots and technology are integrated into everyday life. Protagonists Jack Cayman and Leonhardt Victorion are identified in the trailer, with their dialogue making up most of the voiceovers. In addition, we witness the bad guys in cut-scene combat and a young woman who seeks Jack’s help.

Although this particular trailer for Anarchy Reigns has revealed potential substance to back up its style, whether the story translates well into gameplay remains to be seen.

Anarchy Reigns is slated for release in January 2012. It will be available on PS3 and 360.
