Not just another shmup?

Starfire Studios has unveiled its debut project, a twin stick sci-fi shooter known as Fusion: Genesis. As the announcement trailer demonstrates, the action is surprisingly unhurried, which some may consider refreshing in a genre that has become increasingly frantic.

The game appears to feature an impressive level of variety, with players able to mine, trade, escort and obliterate across what promises to be a vast galaxy. Players will be able to choose between a range of solo and cooperative missions or even clash with one another in a special PVP zone. Any way you look at it, Fusion: Genesis looks to be much broader in scope than a traditional ‘shmup’.

Starfire Studios consists of just four developers, each a veteran of Microsoft first party Rare. There they contributed to the likes of Donkey Kong Country, Perfect Dark and Kameo: Elements of Power.

Publisher Microsoft Studios is yet to announce a release date for Fusion: Genesis.
