Suffering from sequelitis? You’ve come to the right place. In our third annual New Horizons special, we preview the original properties set to take flight in 2012.
With titles such as Path of Exile and Ruin nearing completion, it shouldn’t be hard to find a new action RPG in 2012. If you were hoping for a break from fantasy, though, you may be more interested in KRATER. The latest indie offering from Swedish outfit Fatshark will transport you to a post apocalyptic world populated by all manner of bloodthirsty abominations. Target platforms are yet to be confirmed.
Six years after Shadow of the Colossus cemented Team Ico’s status as a critical darling, the studio’s next game is nowhere to be found. Development of THE LAST GUARDIAN has been characterised by lengthy delays, resignation of key staff and even (thus far unfounded) rumours of cancelation. This PS3 exclusive will explore the emotional bond between a boy and a creature that can only be described as a big, shaggy, bird, dog, thing.
Designed to demonstrate the almost overwhelming range of control options available on the Vita, LITTLE DEVIANTS is a family friendly launch title from first party developer BigBig Studios. The touch pads, motions sensors, cameras and microphone will all receive a workout as you guide a vaguely unsettling blob through a series of bite sized challenges. Is there room in your life for another minigame collection?

Every so often, a title comes along that you can hold up as a proud example of a maturing medium. LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW probably isn’t that game. One of at least four projects in production at Grasshopper Manufacture, Lollipop Chainsaw sees you in the role of a barely legal high school cheerleader named Juliet Starling. Will this third person action game offer anything more substantial than cringeworthy fan service? You’ll find out soon enough.
Is it true that everyone is either a cat person or a dog person? If so, Brawsome founder Andrew Goulding is almost certainly the latter. Having already delivered the canine pirate caper Jolly Rover, he is now hard at work on the werewolf themed MACGUFFIN’S CURSE. It may not look like much, but if this 2D adventure can match its award winning predecessor in terms of dialogue and puzzle design, it could well be a winner.
