The Black Panel highlights the original properties announced at E3 2012.

During the Sony press conference, Heavy Rain creator David Cage took the podium to announce his hotly anticipated new project. In a speech that reminded me of something that Peter Molyneux sprouts at this time of year, the Quantic Dream founder announced Beyond: Two Souls. He went on to say that Ellen Page (Juno, Inception) provided her likeness and acting abilities to the game. The main character was completely motion captured from Page and as you can see from the trailer, the results are impressive.

Cage promised players will get to experience the life Jodi Holmes, the main character, as she goes through her journey and learns about the great beyond, life after death so to speak. The footage is both creepy and engaging and an almost X-Files like feeling of tension surrounds the scene. The vision is from a cut scene at the beginning of the game and is rather action heavy, especially towards the end.

If you enjoyed Heavy Rain, you’ll no doubt be keeping a close eye on this one already, but if you didn’t like the aforementioned title, there isn’t much in this trailer to swing you in Beyond’s favour. It seems to be once again a highly scripted story based experience and there are no indications as to what you’ll actually be doing in the final product. However, what is shown is a very impressive demonstration of the technology powering the game. The graphics are without a doubt the highlight of the trailer. Facial expressions, lip syncing and character movement are all spot on. Hopefully the gameplay in this PS3 exclusive lives up to this impressive technology and provides an immersive experience.
