Don’t try this at home

The year may well have another five months to run, but the race to release the most unsettling trailer of 2012 appears to be done and dusted. Tomorrow Corporation (a studio boasting veterans of World of Goo and Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure) is toiling away on a mysterious game called Little Inferno.

The two minute teaser hints at a timeless (but unmistakably Dickensian) world in which small children are encouraged to play with fire, not just for kicks, but because their very survival depends upon it. If that isn’t bad enough, the trailer’s demented theme song not only strips away your sanity, it destroys your very soul. Just try to sleep after listening to that jingle!

In gameplay terms, there isn’t a lot to see at this stage. According to the developer, you’ll be tossing “logs, screaming robots, credit cards, batteries, exploding fish, unstable nuclear devices, and tiny galaxies” into a fireplace in order to stave off a bizarre environmental catastrophe. Wait just a second, did they say “exploding fish”?

Tomorrow Corporation is planning to release Little Inferno on Wii U, PC and iOS.

That was….well I don’t know what that was. Is it just me or did that give anyone Naughty Bear Flashbacks?

Anything that involves kids in abnormal environments/behaviours has the potential to be downright terrifying.
