When Keiji Inafune departed Capcom back in 2010, it seemed unlikely that fans would ever again see him at the helm of Mega Man. While that probably remains the case, Inafune’s announcement of Mighty No. 9 will do much to warm the hearts of Mega Man fans.
This new PC game features many of the hallmarks of his most famous creation, including an eponymous robot protagonist and challenging 2D action platforming. By defeating bosses (who just happen to be the other eight ‘Mighty’ robots), you’ll gain access to their powers. It’s another gameplay element that should feel eerily familiar to longtime Mega Man players.
A Kickstarter campaign for the game went live last week and flew past its US $900k target in a matter of days. Mighty No. 9 is due to arrive in April 2015. If the $2.5m stretch goal is reached, the game will also find its way to 360, PS3 and Wii U.
