One of the industry’s marquee racing franchises appears to be heading back to the drawing board. The freshly announced Grid Autosport will apparently abandon the arcade handling and social media melodrama of Grid 2. In its place will be a pure racing experience far more in keeping with previous offerings from the team at Codemasters, which is also responsible for the popular Dirt series.
Writing for the official PlayStation Blog, Codemasters community manager Ben Walke acknowledged that Grid 2 had missed the mark with some fans. “If Grid 2 raced off into a more narrative-led world of racing with more accessible controls, it’s clear that for many of you that wasn’t what you wanted or expected,” he wrote.
According to Walke, Grid Autosport will hark back to Codemasters’ roots “in terms of content and handling”.
Look for this one to land on 360, PS3 and PC in June, with no sign of next gen versions at this stage.
