nanoBITES 51

NanoBITES captures those small but important morsels of gaming information that otherwise might slip between the cracks.

ITEM! Clearly impressed by the work of Sucker Punch Productions, Sony this week announced that it has purchased the studio. The most recent project to emerge from the developer was the well received PS3 exclusive Infamous 2.

ITEM! United Front Games’ True Crime: Hong Kong is about to climb off the canvas. The game was cancelled by Activision earlier this year but, as reported by Gamasutra, Square Enix has acquired the rights to publish it under a different (as yet unrevealed) title.

ITEM! It appears that the creators of Burn Zombie Burn are inclined to stick with what they know. Doublesix has announced “weapons-based arena combat game” All Zombies Must Die for a Q4 release on PSN and PC.

ITEM! Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops gravy train shows no sign of slowing, with the publisher announcing a new wave of DLC. Featuring two new and four ‘remastered’ zombie levels, the Rezurrection pack will arrive on 360 in the fourth week of August, with PS3 and PC versions to follow at a later date.

ITEM! Nintendo’s great handheld hopes have undergone title changes. As reported by 1UP, Super Mario 3DS and Mario Kart 3DS will now be known as Super Mario 3DS Land and Mario Kart 7. Nintendo is yet to announce Australian release dates.

3DS price slashed, early adopters compensated

Mario Kart: Super Circuit: One of 20 games being offered to early adopters

Just four months after it arrived on store shelves, Nintendo of Australia has announced plans to slash the RRP of its 3DS handheld from $350 to $250 on Friday 12 August. The price of the unit has also been heavily reduced in Japan, Europe and the United States. The 3DS is currently in the midst of a crippling software drought and, as reported by the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo has already conceded that its latest offering has experienced slower than expected sales.

The platform holder plans to soothe any resentment on the part of early adopters by offering them free downloadable games for the device. In order to qualify for the compensation, 3DS owners must connect to the eShop prior to Friday 12 August. From September, players will be offered 10 Virtual Console titles from the NES library, including Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong Jr. Players will also be granted access to 10 GBA titles by year’s end, with Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion and WarioWare Inc: Minigame Madness among the highlights.

Does the new price make you more likely to pick up a 3DS? Are the 20 classic games fair compensation for shelling out an extra $100 at launch. Let us know!
