Ron Gilbert has reteamed with his erstwhile Monkey Island collaborator Tim Schafer at Double Fine Productions. The reunion will result in at least one original project, Gilbert revealed in an interview with Kotaku. Though he wouldn’t be drawn on the precise nature of the unnamed game, he did suggest that it would be of interest to lovers of classic adventure titles. While Gilbert will be the game’s chief architect, Schafer has already participated in a number of “brainstorming sessions”.
The two veteran developers were key figures in the golden age of comedic point and click adventures at LucasArts, working together on The Secret of Monkey Island (the special edition of which is pictured above), Day of the Tentacle and much more. Gilbert went to on contribute to GT Interactive’s Total Annihilation and Hothead’s DeathSpank, while Schafer founded Double Fine Productions, the indie studio responsible for Psychonauts and Brutal Legend.
We’ll bring you more on this project as it develops.
