ITEM! Bethesda has announced a release date for The Elder Scrolls Online. The MMO some consider to be the last great hope for the monthly subscription model is due to launch on PC on 4 April 2014, with XBO and PS4 versions to follow in June.

ITEM! Yager Development has kept a remarkably low profile since releasing the critically acclaimed Spec Ops: The Line almost 18 months ago. However CVG has revealed that Yager is now staffing up for a ‘AAA’ free-to-play title.

ITEM! One of the most rabidly anticipated online shooters of 2014 has a firm release date. It has been revealed that Destiny, from Activision and Halo creators Bungie Studios, will arrive on 9 September 2014.

ITEM! Not much is known about Jonathon Blow’s The Witness. Thanks to Engadget, though, we now know at least one more thing about the mysterious puzzle game. It will include support for the Oculus Rift headset.

ITEM! The surprisingly compelling relaunch of Tomb Raider is set to continue on XBO and PS4 with the release of Tomb Raider: The Definition Edition. Due on 30 January, this re-release will feature superior graphics and all previously issued DLC.

ITEM! The former president of now defunct publisher THQ has labelled Nintendo “irrelevant as a hardware manufacturer in the console business”. In an interview with GameTrailers, Jason Rubin suggested that Nintendo should transition to third party publisher status.

ITEM! Its surprise absence from the Xbox One launch line-up was an almost unbearable tragedy, but the long wait for Peggle 2 will soon be over. As reported by VentureBeat, the downloadable exclusive will arrive on the Xbox Games Store next week.

ITEM! Ryse: Son of Rome developer Crytek has picked up some high profile talent, securing the services of God of War Ascension game director Todd Pappy. As reported by CVG, Pappy will be working on an unannounced title for the German team.

ITEM! Norse themed strategy RPG The Banner Saga has a release date. The good news is that we won’t have long to wait for this Kickstarter success story, with Stoic Studio’s debut project poised to launch on 14 January 2014.

ITEM! Double Fine has secured the distribution rights to two of its recent releases. Nordic Games acquired the rights to Stacking and Costume Quest during the THQ implosion, but relinquished them after reaching a new publishing agreement with Double Fine.

ITEM! Legendary developer John Carmack has resigned from his post at id Software according to a PC Gamer story. The co-creator of FPS classics like Doom and Quake is, of course, still gainfully employed at Oculus VR.

ITEM! The slick new Xbox One controller went through many revisions before the final design was accepted. As reported by VentureBeat, Microsoft even created a prototype with swappable smell packs to enhance player immersion.

ITEM! A strategy classic is about to make the leap to iOS in the form of M.U.L.E. Returns. Originally released for Atari systems, this sci-fi themed resource management sim should pop up in the app store early this week.

ITEM! Following its announcement earlier this year, there was much speculation as to when Sunset Overdrive would make its way to retail. As noted by Joystiq, publisher Microsoft has now revealed that it is aiming for a 2014 release.

ITEM! Fumito Ueda has again apologised for the long delays associated with one time PS3 poster child The Last Guardian. The celebrated developer told Edge that he is “terribly sorry” for having kept his “audience waiting for such a long time”.

ITEM! World of Warcraft is to receive a fifth major expansion, with Blizzard this week revealing that Warlords of Draenor is in the pipeline. The new package will feature a time travelling storyline and an increased level cap of 100.

ITEM! The Xbox One’s already rocky road to launch has hit another speed bump, with a US retailer shipping the console to some of its customers weeks ahead of schedule. Microsoft is currently preventing these units from connecting to Xbox Live.

ITEM! DOTA 2 players weren’t thrilled by Valve’s decision to allow Halloween (known to the game’s fans as ‘Diretide’) to slip by without a dedicated in-game event. Valve has since announced plans to belatedly celebrate the occasion in the next update.

ITEM! In a timely reminder that the next generation won’t sweep aside all hardware limitations, Capcom’s Mike Jones told OXM that the Xbox One exclusive Dead Rising 3 couldn’t reliably support more than two players in co-op.

ITEM! Microsoft has unveiled a range of Xbox One services that will be available at launch. Australian users will have access to Crackle, Machinima, MUZU TV, Network Ten’s tenplay, Quickflix, SBS On Demand, TED and Twitch.
