@harlitrix – Spotted on morning train to work – business man in suit is playing Starcraft 2 on his laptop. Awesomes.

@Erin Marcon – I just received a parcel containing a tiny replica of Thor’s hammer. That was… unexpected.

@Hewso81 – Insanely twisted shadow planet finished. Thank god, what a pain in the arse, Great ideas, poor controls ruined it.

@Sir_JD – Finally past the demo section of Darksiders – just keeps getting better and better

@Hewso81 – I have made a choice, I am going to boycott boycotting Diablo 3…… That’ll learn em #gamersarestoopidsometimes

@Erin Marcon – My sympathies to the local developers who found themselves “strategically realigned” this week.

OFF TOPIC

@harlitrix – Need new music. Preferably something in the rock/alternative/indie vein. Any recommendations?

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet Review

Posted by Matthew Hewson On Monday 15 August 2011No Comments

Metroid style games have returned with a vengeance in recent years. From Shadow Complex to Outland, it seems almost every month we are getting a new entry in the once almost extinct genre. Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet (ITSP from now on, as writing that mouthful in every second sentence would turn me into an Insanely Twisted Games Reviewer) was both my burden and pleasure and while it was nowhere near as good as the two games I previously mentioned, there was enough in the game to keep me going right ‘til the end. The Black List 101

Posted by Black Panel Staff On Saturday 13 August 2011No Comments

Welcome to The Black List, your one stop shop for the stories published on the site this week.

MONDAY 1 NEW TRAILER Anarchy Reigns > Anarchy Reigns (formerly Max Anarchy) was announced earlier this year as the newest project from developer Platinum Games in conjunction with SEGA. With a track record of games such as Bayonetta and Vanquish, it should come as no surprise that the latest trailer from the developer doesn’t shy away from drama. READ MORE

MONDAY 2 REVIEW Shadows of the Damned > Third person shooters are a dime a dozen in today’s market, but Shadows of the Damned stands out with dark tones, hip style and gameplay that requires you to think while riddling the underworld with bullets. Be prepared for lots of gore and adult humour, some of it perhaps in questionable taste. Apart from some camera issues and somewhat clunky controls reminiscent of Resident Evil, this game is smart and a lot of fun. READ MORE

TUESDAY JUST ANNOUNCED Sine Mora > Grasshopper Manufacture clearly isn’t inclined to rest on its laurels. It released Shadows of the Damned in June, announced Lollipop Chainsaw in July and has Codename D due later this year. Now the increasingly prolific studio has unveiled plans to develop a range of titles in collaboration with Digital Reality. The first fruit of the partnership is to be known as Sine Mora. READ MORE

WEDNESDAY NEWS THQ Studio Closures > THQ has pulled the plug on its Australian development interests, conceding that 200 jobs will be lost as a result of the closure of its two local studios. As reported by Tsumea, the businesses in question are Blue Tongue Entertainment and THQ Studio Australia. The publisher attributed its “strategic realignment” to a desire to move away “from licensed kids titles and movie based entertainment properties”. READ MORE

THURSDAY NEWS nanoBITES 52 > Long awaited car combat reboot Twisted Metal has been delayed. Originally due in October, the action packed PS3 exclusive from developer Eat Sleep Play now has a release window of “early 2012”. This is just one of the stories in this week’s edition of nanoBITES, our ongoing feature devoted to small but important news items. READ MORE

FRIDAY REVIEW From Dust > If my time with From Dust has taught me anything, it’s that I’d make an awful God. While my tribesmen continued to scream for help, and the timer ticked down before a massive wave engulfed their village, I was far too busy just playing around. READ MORE
