Rebranded 2K Australia returns to BioShock

“…and if you even think about changing your name again, I’ll be back.”

An Australian team will be contributing to one of the industry’s most anticipated titles. As reported by MCV, Canberra based 2K Australia will be assisting Irrational Games in the development of its alternate history shooter BioShock Infinite.

Irrational Games creative director Ken Levine told Joystiq that “We had a number of open positions on BioShock Infinite. When we found out our former sister studio 2K Australia was becoming available, we thought they would perfectly fill those roles.”

The local operation’s various name changes and restructures have made it difficult to keep track of its impressive output. It worked on the PC version of the original BioShock (as part of Irrational Games) and BioShock 2 (as 2K Australia) before contributing to the forthcoming XCOM reboot (as part of 2K Marin). At the time of publication, the studio is again known as 2K Australia. How long that will last is anyone’s guess.

BioShock Infinite is expected to arrive on 360, PS3 and PC in 2012.

Welcome to The Black List, your one stop shop for the stories published on the site this week.

MONDAY REVIEW Rayman Origins > Most notable for its distinctive art style and expressive animation, Rayman’s latest adventure also features solid level design and plenty of gameplay variety. With its wealth of hidden extras, it also boasts much more content than is initially apparent. This is just one of many ways that Rayman Origins recalls the best platformers of the past. If you long for the sensibilities of the 16-bit era, you really should check this out. READ MORE

TUESDAY NEWS Torchlight II > Torchlight fans, your worst fears have been confirmed. Of course, this statement relies on the assumption that your worst fears involve Torchlight II being delayed to 2012 and not death by firing squad or being trapped in enclosed spaces. READ MORE

WEDNESDAY TEST TUBE DanceStar Party > I was recently asked by The Black Panel’s illustrious editor to devote a couple of hours to DanceStar Party. Easy, I thought (I could boogie in my living room like a twit for an afternoon) but it wasn’t long before I ran into my first issue. I couldn’t remember the damn title of the game! “I’ll be right over after I finish playing Dance Central… I mean, Dance Dance Revolution… sorry, Just Dance… err… DanceStar Party. Yes. That’s it.” READ MORE

THURSDAY JUST ANNOUNCED Unit 13 > Sony has unveiled an original action IP for its forthcoming PSVita console. Actually, the ‘word’ original may not be entirely appropriate in this case. Not only has it been saddled with the hopelessly generic title of Unit 13, but the latest offering from Sony first party Zipper Interactive appears to be a fairly standard third person shooter. Set in the high stakes world of “kicking ass”, Unit 13 includes six character classes and missions on at least three different continents. READ MORE
